Today we finished UNIT 5!!! We also decided that the Unit 5 test will be on Friday instead :)
Things to do: - work on predicting bond types - work on Lewis structures - work on periodic table trends - chemical bonding assignment (due Friday) - unit 5 review sheet Tomorrow we learn unit 6!!! Today we worked on Unit 5 - Atomic theory!
We covered the structure of atoms as well as electron configuration. You were assigned questiosn from Hebby, so make sure you practice. You also got an electron configuration worksheet! You should do it, and be able to define "isoelectric". Tomorrow we will have a small electron configuration QUIZ! We will learn about bonding and periodic table trends, which brings us to the end of Unit 5 We are scheduled to write our Unit 5 test on Thursday!!! It will cover everything from Atomic theory to periodic table trends!!! Today we wrote a quick stoic quiz on excess and limiting reactants!
We did lab 6D, which we will finish up on Monday! We write the Unit 4 Test on Monday morning, then we will listen to the atomic theory presentations on Monday after the break!!! Today we ICE'd it up!!!!!!!!!!!
We became professional level (hopefully) stoichiometry people! You now know how to complete both simple and complex stoic problems, here are some things you can do to practice: - complete the stoic. assignment you got before the break (hand it in!) - work on any of the Questions in Hebby (#1-32) - work on the Limiting and excess questions handout Tomorrow there is a quiz on "simple stoic" (like the stuff we covered before the break, including Molarity!!) Friday there is a "complex" stoic quiz (including limiting and excess reactants) Your UNIT 4 TEST is MONDAY!!!!!!!!! today was reactions day!!!
1. We did lab 5B in partners! this is due by the end of the day Wednesday. 2. We talked about energy changes in reactions, you can do Hebden Q's #70-80 to practice this 3. We started talking about stoichiometry, and there are some easy Hebby Q's you can try for practice as well (p.123 #1-5) Tomorrow we will have a quiz on reactions (balancing, classifying, predicting products) Thursday we will do Lab 6A and possibly have a small stoic. Quiz Friday we will do Lab 6D part #1 and have another more complex stoic quiz, which will prepare us for the Unit 4 Test coming up on Monday June 25th!!! Today we had our moles unit test.
Afterwards we worked through reactions: types, predicting products, balancing, phase writing. You got a chemical equations hand in assignment, you should hand this in by tomorrow. You also got a voyage through equations as well as another equations assignment. I would do those... Tomorrow is our reactions lab 5B! We just may have a balancing and equations assignment also... Today was a thrill!!!
We learned about molarity (which is not on the moles test on Monday!!) We then started Unit 4 - Chemical reactions!!! Things to be good at by next class: - MOLE CONVERSIONS!!! (you have a unit test after all) - balancing reactions - writing reactions, with phases, that are properly balanced Next week this is happening: Monday: Moles Test Tuesday: Chemical Reactions Lab! Balancing/word problem assessment of some type... Wednesday: Quiz on classifying, predicting products and balancing Thursday: Stoichiometry Quiz #1. Lab 6A Friday: Stoic Quiz #2. Lab 6D Today we finished off unit 3!!!
We learned how to do: % composition, emipirical formula, and molecular formula!! This material will be on the unit 3 test on Monday. We also learned about molarity calculations!! This material will not appear on the unit 3 test, but it will come back when we cover unit 4 and 6, so it is important to have a good handle on these conversions. Things to complete today: - % composition practice from class (I really like the questions at the bottom of the page...hint hint) - %, EF, MF practice Qs from class - any assigned hebden questions from p. 91 - 98 (I really like some of these too...) Tomorrow: - we will write a %, EF,MF Quiz - I might collect that %, EF, MF take home assignment you got... Today was moles day #2!!! We completed a mole lab, which was handed in at the end of class. We learned about multi-step mole conversions and you completed an in class assignment! We did a practice partner moles quiz and learned from our mistakes! Things to do for tomorrow: - become a moles expert! We are having a moles quiz tomorrow...its challenging! - complete lab 4A if you didn't already - you got a moles take home test at the end of the day...I would have it done for tomorrow... |
